July 30 – Northern Tier Niagara Falls, Canada- Day Off !!!!
Day Off !! No carrot cake to eat this morning on my day off but I had a lot of Oreo cookies in my bag that became my breakfast! Delicious! No rain today but still got wet taking the “Horn Blower” (aka Maid of the Mist which is on the US side) boat tour over, under, around and through the falls. Eight of our group went on the 10 o’clock boat. After the boat I took the “incline” up to the top of the gorge and did some sightseeing in that area of the city. Later we took the WEGO system bus to Niagara on the Lake and took a self guided tour of the town including an antique drug store that was in business for well over one hundred years until 1964 and has been preserved. In the displays were old medications and bottles including one made by my great great aunt, Lydia Pinkham. On the tour we also met Andrew and Gayle Henworth working in the garden of their home that dates to before the war of 1812. It is not open to the public but they invited us in for a visit. Andrew was a former jet pilot for the Canadian Air Force and later for Air Canada. He is a painter and showed us several of his works. Back to Niagara for the evening for some miniature golf where I scored a hole in one on the first hole. Ice cream and back to the hotel for fireworks at 10.Horn blowers touring boatIncline above Horseshoe Galls, CanadaDowntown Niagara fountainMy great great aunts cure-allThe red doorThe blue door , Niagara on the lakeAnother blue doorGail and Andrew HendeckEnding the day with fireworksHole in one on first hole !!
