August 2 – Northern Tier – Waterloo- Canastota, NY 73 miles

Bob Hargrave and Chris Read biking down country road                                 Chris and Susan Read met us at the Del Lago resort this morning and Bob, Mark and I rode with Chris.  Since he is from the Syracuse area he took us on a great route mostly avoiding the gravel canal trail.  He explained a lot of history of the area and about the canals in particular.  He took us to lunch at the Blarney Stone in Syracuse which has been voted the best hamburger for some time and I can see why…..yum!
About 15 miles from the end of the ride Chris took us to a museum along the canal that was once a dry dock boat repair area that had been discovered, excavated and restored.  It was very interesting!
Susan met us at the hotel in Canasota and she and Chris joined us for the happy hour.  Susan had also brought along a derailleur to replace the broken one on Gayles bike that Chris had ordered via the bike shop he works at.  After happy hour we went for dinner at a pizza place in town.
It was great seeing Chris and Susan
