today I felt better and we headed out to Eureka for a city tour by Ray. He had been a curator at a museum in SanFrancisco. He was quite knowledgeable of the city and the beautiful French and English style of architecture on the buildings. It was a great tour. After we went to Sequoia park which is located by the Zoo. It was fun to explore the trees. We went to dinner at Shamus BBQ and they had a tesla motor which they turned on for a second. Electricity could be seen coming from it. Anyway relaxing today seemed to make my cold better and tomorrow we will join the group again.

it was a great day!

today we woke up to cold misty fog. We headed out to Crescent City and came into California. Very exciting. We arrived in Crescent City and stopped at a Walmart for something warm to drink and I was looking for some allergy medicine as I haven’t felt the best. Because of me not feeling well we took a bus that happened to go to Arcata. We decided on the bus to bike the rest of the way to Eureka where there were more hotels. We found the Comfort Inn for the night. I sure needed a warm bed and a good nights sleep.

How lovely! She also brought me her address! What a great surprise!so after breakfast we all did laundry and had the rest of the day to rearrange our stuff for tomorrow.

Today we went to Harris Beach State Park via cab for sunset. It was quite rewarding!

Today we headed up, of course out of camp by beautiful vistas and sea smoke along the water. Unfortunately our route turned inland away from the coast but we took a nice country road with little traffic through the woods. We ended up coming down from a hill along the Rogue River. We crossed the bridge and went along the coast the rest of the day  passing beautiful vistas. It was quite a lot of uphill and we really got our workout. The last busts we could see California in the background and that was quite exciting! Tonight we stay in a hotel for 2 nights as it is rest day tomorrow!! Hallelujah!  I think we all need to rest our legs! Tonight as we were heading out to dinner we met a woman Shirley. She is a wonderful person who gave us a ride to the restaurant and we bought her dinner and she took us to her beautiful home on a hill. It was certainly a pleasure meeting her. She us very artistic and showed us her beautiful artwork and photos. !

Once again no wifi or phone service so I am writing this post late. We left Sunset Bay and went up off the island onto Devils 7 hills road. Well ,the road was quite steep! Nothing like an early morning aerobics to start the day! We went through the quaint artistic town of Bandon and stopped at the Cupcake Bakery shop for a wonderful Pumkin spice cupcake which we ate by the Harbor. The cupcake was delicious. We went by s cranberry Big which surprised me as Cape Cod has so many cranberry bogs. We passed many more Sea Dtacks just a some sunlight was breaking through. It was quite beautiful. Our campsite was in an open area near a beach where at of us went for sunset.

it was a great day !

Sept 24 Florence to Sunset Bay

Bridges are constant and narrow
You push a button before you cross a bridge and yellow flashing lights will come on to warn traffic you are on the bridge . Nevertheless the cars are not too happy !
Cloudy but pretty Stacks
Juvenile Humpback whale jaw bone

Wifi and phone service are hard to come by so I am just writing this now.  We Biked  inland today on a somewhat cloudy and chilly day. Biking over bridges are a challenge as you push a button before the bridge and that is supposed to alert the drivers to slow down but lots of horns blow at us although I have been lucky not to have angry drivers behind me .

It was a great day!

Morning has broken
Kiawanda Beach
Salmon fishing
Lincoln City Sea Stack
Depoe bridge
Bridge at Beverly Beach
Sunset Newport Beach Or

Today we started our ride heading up a 3 mile climb. So we really warmed up fast! We road on and off along the coastal cities and tried to stay off route 101 which was quite crowded. There was a lot of climbing during the day but that means we also went  downhill which is nice. We were very lucky and saw hump back whales at one viewpoint and then grey whales  in Depoe  Bay! It was quite thrilling as the whales were near the shore so we got a great view of them! We also passed the ocean as it splashed high on the rocks. We arrived at camp and quickly opened our tents up to dry from all the dew from the morning on the beach. Luckily it was windy and I have a nice dry tent. Tonight I went out to dinner with Jim and Pam  and we had a lovely dinner in Newport as we watched a beautiful colorful sunset.

it was a great day !

Today was a beautiful morning with “beach sand-like clouds”. It had been a cold night but I got my older sleeping bag sent to me by Paul and I am so much warmer.  We all headed out this morning south east towards Tillamook and saw many fighting boats on the river. This is a good time to catch salmon. We past by many fishing villages going up and down along the inlets. There is a lot of climbing each day. We reached Tillamook Cheese factory and stopped to taste the cheese and have ice cream! I had a white chocolate raspberry   Ice cream- delicious! We then headed toward Cape Meares and climbed up a very high hill to get on the other side of the mountainish hill ! The road had had a big wash out and was closed but bikes were allowed to go over. It was over a mile of climbing. But on the other side was the ocean with houses perched on the tall hills. They must have phenomenal views! Once we made it down we headed up towards Cape Lookout. Just as we got in it started to rain so I quickly put it up with the help of Ann. The rain didn’t last too long and I was able to get a quick shower before dinner which was sweet potato and veggie soup. Quite delicious! I was also able to walk along the beach in the sun as it came back out. Sunset was quite nice as the afterglow seem to last quite a while.

it was a great day!
